Week Three Story- The Faithful Logie

To stay home, or not stay home, is the question young Jacob of Norman was asking himself late in the afternoon of what was a beautiful Saturday. Yes, he had finished the day's tasks, and had promised his lads that he would meet them on the popular corner in their small village later in the evening. However, as the day wore on, he began to dread the promise he had made to his companions more and more. While he loved a good social outing, as the only man in his group who had already promised his heart away to a lady, the nights out with his friends tended to get messy. Jacob was not oblivious of his good looks, and his ability to charm whomever he spoke to, but he also knew that he loved his beloved girl, Rachael, very much. Rachael was out of town this weekend, however, which meant she would not be attending the outing this evening, leaving Jacob out in the open and susceptible to women looking for love. The night quickly approached, and Jacob prepared himself for the festive night, even though he had a nagging feeling in his mind. The boys and him headed to the local pub, Logies, where the beer is plenty and the women outnumber the men. Almost immediately did the group of boys split up in search of their interests for the night, leaving poor Jacob alone. One of his friends returned soon, with a girl on one arm for himself, and a girl on his other arm for Jacob. Keeping a reasonable distance, but being a good sport, Jacob entertained the girl the remainder of the night, despite her level of intoxication. The night drew to a close, and while Jacob stayed with a modest two drinks, the remainder of his friends decided tonight would be the night they would test their limits. After making sure all of his friends had staggered off in the general direction of their homes, Jacob was left with the girl that had been in his company all night. At this point, she was beyond being able to stagger off in the direction of her home and stay in that direction, but Jacob hardly knew her name, no less where she lived. Making the decision against his better judgment, Jacob dragged the girl to his home and propped her up on the couch where she would sleep off the night, and Jacob retired to his personal sleeping quarters. Everything seemed to be in order, until Jacob woke the next morning with Rachael standing over him, who just so happened to return early from her weekend trip, and the girl from the night before, still soundly asleep on the couch.

Authors Note: I knew when I read the original story of Potiphar's Wife that it was the one I wanted to retell. In the original story, Joseph was a loyal servant of Potiphar, never causing any harm or doing any wrong. The wife of Potiphar, however, tried to lure Joseph in on numerous occasions, promising her husband would never find out. However, Joseph refused, knowing he could never betray his master like that. Upon being rejected so many times, Potiphar's Wife manipulated Joesph, and obtained his undergarments, which she announced to everyone his 'wrong-doings', hence getting Joseph thrown in prison. The story to me seemed like something you could hear in today's times.

  1. Your story really made me laugh! I liked how you described, "young Jacob of Norman was asking himself late in the afternoon of what was a beautiful Saturday. Yes, he had finished the day's tasks, and had promised his lads that he would meet them on the popular corner in their small village later in the evening." All of your descriptions were really cool the way they paralleled a typical night out in Norman, but also seemed to be taking place in a almost biblical land. This was a great story and really was a modern day twist on the story you read. Great job!

  2. I really enjoyed your story. All of your detail and descriptions had me thinking the whole time that this was an actual story that could have happened today, in fact I'm sure this has happened a few times here in Norman. The ending did leave me wondering how Rachel would react to the situation, and again because I was reading this as an actual story, I was wondering what would happen the next morning with the girl when she woke up. What if you changed the story up a bit to where Jacob did not limit himself to two drinks. How do you think the story could have changed?

  3. I loved that you set the story in Norman because it instantly became relatable! Your description of Logies "where the beer is plenty and the women out number the men" was so funny and very true. The whole story was really nice and felt like a typical Friday night in Norman, but the ending left me wondering what was going to happen to Jacob. Did the girl he brought home do something? Does Rachael have trust issues? Does she have a reason to think that Jacob would cheat on her? What if you expanded on the ending a little bit to let the readers know what happens to our dear friend Jacob? I know that I've felt like Jacob sometimes and I bet other readers have too.

  4. Hi Adriana,
I really enjoyed reading your story because it was very relatable. I am the only one of my friend that is taken so I know what it is like to have to limit myself when I go out with the girls. The point wow point of the story was when his beloved Rachael was looking over him in the morning. The whole time I was wondering where the story was going and I really enjoyed the ending. I wonder if Jacob would have stayed faithful to Rachael if he had more to drink. What would have happened if Rachael had come to Jacob in bed with the girl he brought home? I would have liked to see you describe the girl that Jacob brought home a little bit more. I would even have liked to see you compare her to Rachael. I think this would illustrate the trouble and the conflict that Jacob faced that night.

  5. Hey Adriana!
Another excellent story! It was beautifully written which made an outing to a sleazy bar sound very sophisticated and well read. I feel for both Jacob and Rachel in this story. Jacob was just trying to do a kindness for a incapacitated girl, but it does place them in an uncomfortable situation. You did a great job in retelling the story of Joseph and Potiphar's wife in a modern setting and made it realistic enough for me to believe that this is a true story. Great job1
