Reading Notes- Jatakas Tales
No matter the fact that this is still considered folklore, it has a much different vibe to me than the folklores we have read thus far. I noticed a trend across these stories, which is that they carry a more sinister feel. Most of the stories deal with one character trying to harm (or eating in our case), another character. My personal favorite was the Goblins story, which the goblins posed as beautiful women to lure men into marrying them so that they could eventually eat them. In a way less cannibal way, you could relate that to modern day dating! (Haha, joking..) But regardless of the cynicism, I did enjoy the stories. Reading through them, there were many "oh, I did not see that coming" moments, which made the stories fun, and quite different from what we are used to. I will say, however that I do prefer the morals of our stories over these, as in some of the stories, I could not quite make out the bigger picture (except maybe to never trust goblins!).
